Facts
1. Cannabis is a naturally wild plant which can be found in most parts of the world,
but is mainly associated with Lebanese, Morocco, Pakistan and other warm parts of the world.
2. The plants from which cannabis products are derived from are
“cannabis sativa” and “cannabis indica”, which are bushy plants.
3. The main agent within the plant is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) which has the main effect on
the brain.
Did You Know???
1. Cannabis comes in varying strains and its potency is dependant on variety,
where and how it is grown –
2. Hash (solid) is a brown block which is mainly imported from Lebanon and Morocco and nowadays
is generally fairly poor quality.
3. Grass or Green is the leaf which is mainly imported from Thailand, West Indies and also
produced in abundance in the UK.
4. Cannabis was first documented as an herbal remedy in a Chinese pharmacy text of the first
century AD though accounts of its use as a mood enhancer go back to the Scythians
prior to this.
5. Hemp, which is the weak form of cannabis, was/is also used to make rope, clothing and sails
for boats.
6. Cannabis has beneficial medical properties and is known to alleviate the symptoms of MS and
other painful disorders.
Effects
1. The government, at present, is saying that cannabis use could lead to poor mental health
issues later on but the research at the moment is inconclusive and this debate will carry on
for the future!!!!!!
2. The ACMD, the expert body that advises the government of illegal drug issues,
is not recommending a re-classification back to “Class B”.
3. Cannabis smoking may cause the user to have increased appetite (in other words the “Munchies”).
4. Cannabis may be used to become relaxed and happy and at ease with one’s surroundings and peers
and can last for a long period.
5. Cannabis may also cause some people to become anxious and paranoid with their surroundings.
6. Cannabis can also be used as an excuse for anti-social or violent behaviour.
7. Cannabis can heighten individual perception to music and colours.
8. There is no physical dependency to smoking cannabis but some users may find that they become
psychologically in need of the drug.
The Law
1. As from 26th January 2009, Cannabis is now controlled under "Class B" of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
2. This means that cannabis is still illegal whether you grow it, take it for personal
use or supply it. A new escallation penalty system for cannabis possession means that the penalty issued is
directly related to the number of times an individual has previously been caught in possession of the drug.
3. Possession is an arrestable offence and individuals can be fined or sentenced from
2 years to 5 years dependant on the quantity in their possession.
4. If caught supplying, penalties still remain at a possible 14 years imprisonment and remember
this includes knocking out a bit of gear to your mates in order to have
your own supply buckshee.
